Murcia's local police to patrol on electric scooters to tackle e-scooter misuse
Twelve officers will use specially equipped e-scooters to monitor bike lanes and smaller streets to educate riders on the rules

Murcia's local police have started a new unit that patrols on electric scooters. The team has 12 officers and four specially equipped scooters, and they will focus on bike lanes and streets that are hard to reach with regular police cars. They plan to add more scooters to the fleet gradually.
The unit's job is to make sure people are using scooters properly. Electric scooters are becoming more common, and sometimes riders ignore the rules, use the wrong paths, or block bike lanes. The new patrols will keep an eye on things, making it safer for everyone.
Officers have completed training on the city’s scooter regulations, including speed limits, where scooters can go, parking rules, and the new requirements for registering and insuring these vehicles. They will also wear full protective gear while on patrol.
The unit will start by explaining the rules to riders and helping them understand how to register their scooters. Then after a few weeks, officers will begin issuing fines for anyone breaking the rules or riding dangerously.
City officials say it is all about improving safety, reducing accidents and making it easier for everyone, walkers, cyclists and scooter riders, to share the roads responsibly.
