Man accused of beating his stepson to death in France arrested in Murcia

A joint operation between Spanish and French police leads to the suspect’s arrest after a week-long search

A man was arrested by the National Police early on Sunday morning in Murcia, in connection with the death of his 18-year-old stepson in France. According to police sources, the suspect, who had a European arrest warrant and extradition order against him, is accused of beating his partner’s son to death, as reported by French media outlet Midi Libre.

The crime allegedly took place a week ago in the Prés-Saint-Jean neighbourhood of Alès, a town in southern France. The suspect, a 28-year-old Algerian, had been missing until a joint operation between French and Spanish police tracked him down to a hostel in Murcia, located on Calle Trapería. The arrest took place early on Sunday morning.

The French investigators had alerted their Spanish counterparts to the possibility of the suspect being in Murcia, prompting the Spanish police to send a team from the Prevention and Reaction Unit (UPR) to the hostel. Sources close to the investigation confirmed that a section of the street was blocked off to ensure the arrest could be carried out safely.

After being taken into custody by the National Police, the suspect will appear before an investigating court in Murcia. From there, the court will oversee his extradition to France, where he will face charges related to the death of his stepson.
