New recycling and underground rubbish bins installed in Alhama
The Alhama de Murcia Town Council has issued a handy guide on how best to use these bins
In a bid to keep the streets of Alhama de Murcia spic and span, the council has been busy this week installing brand new recycling bins throughout the municipality. In addition, work has begun to replace the now obsolete underground rubbish containers.
Firstly, and in order to promote recycling and make the process simpler for everyone, Alhama de Murcia Town Council has prepared a detailed guide which explains what each container is for.
Grey containers accept organic waste and items unsuitable for other bins. Users can open these containers in three ways:
- Pedal activation
- Crank mechanism on the lid
- Side levers for wheelchair users
Yellow containers accommodate all packaging materials, such as cartons (i.e., Tetra Pak for juices or milk) and plastic containers (e.g., bottles, bags, etc).
Blue containers house paper and cardboard. Remember to avoid dirty paper, like kitchen roll or used napkins; dispose of them in regular rubbish bins instead.
Remember that flattening cardboard boxes prior to placement helps maximise bin capacity.
The council has also started repairing the four underground bins located on Juan Carlos I Avenue, Cartagena Avenue, Tomás Moro and Manuel de Falla. While all of the facilities are already there, they haven’t been used for several years and so they are in need of a complete overhaul.
The areas where the work will be carried out have already been fenced off and in the coming days, the existing structures will be dismantled. After this, the area will be tidied up and the new containers will be installed.
The Alhama de Murcia Town Council has reiterated its commitment to maintaining a cleaner Alhama, and the authorities would like to remind all residents that every small gesture counts on the road to a greener, healthier municipality.
