New heatwave looms: Spain weather forecast July 31-Aug 3
Temperatures across Spain will gradually rise over the coming weekend

Average temperatures expected on Sunday August 3
After a few days of milder weather, scorching temperatures are set to return at the beginning of August. Over the weekend, the mercury will gradually rise and while the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) isn’t sure yet whether Spain will be hit with another heatwave, it’s certain that thermometers will top 40ºC in large parts of the south.
According to AEMET, the temperature rise will be especially pronounced between Sunday and Monday, when the mercury will exceed 35ºC in large areas of the Ebro Valley, the northern plateau and southern Galicia, and will reach or exceed 38ºC in areas of the central and southern peninsula.
Monday August 4 promises to be a real scorcher, with temperatures between 5 and 10ºC above normal.
"For now, we have to wait and see if the criteria for considering it a heat wave are met," an AEMET spokesperson said, explaining that duration and extent are two of the essential requirements for considering it as such.
Thursday July 31

Stable weather is forecast for most of the country, with mostly clear or slightly cloudy skies, except for the Cantabrian Sea and the northern Canary Islands, where periods of low cloud cover will occur. However, slight instability is expected along the Mediterranean coast and in large areas of the southern half of Spain, with developing cloud cover towards the afternoon.
Daytime temperatures will hold steady in most places for the time being, exceeding 34-36ºC in the southwest and creeping close to 40ºC in the Guadiana and Guadalquivir rivers.
Extreme heat warnings remain active in Andalucía, Extremadura, Castilla y Leon and Galicia.
Friday August 1

Most of Spain will have clear or slightly cloudy skies on Friday, although a passing front could lead to more overcast skies in the central, eastern and southern parts, where afternoon showers and stormy intervals are expected.
Both day and night-time temperatures remain unchanged.
Yellow alerts for thunderstorms have been activated in Andalucía, Aragon, Castilla-La Mancha, the Region of Murcia and the Valencian Community.
Saturday August 2

A bright and sunny day is expected, but with abundant developing clouds in central and eastern Spain.
Showers accompanied by thunderstorms are expected throughout the afternoon in the northeast and mountains of the central peninsula, with surrounding areas and the Balearic Islands not ruled out.
The mercury will start to inch upwards, and Friday night is expected to be uncomfortably warm along the Mediterranean coasts.
Extreme temperature alerts have been issued for Andalucía, Extremadura and Galicia.
Sunday August 3

Stable anticyclonic weather is expected to continue throughout most of the country, although an approaching front will further destabilise the east of Spain. A clear day is expected, but with developing cloud cover in the central and eastern parts of the country.
Showers accompanied by thunderstorms are expected in eastern Catalonia, with storms also a possibility in the extreme south.
Temperatures will continue to increase, with highs of between 34 and 40ºC forecast.
