Puerto de Mazarrón residents have been petitioning for a more accessible access point between Avenida Narciso Yepes and Calle Viriato. At the moment, there is no practical way for people with reduced mobility to traverse the space, since the walkway consists only of a series of stairs impossible to navigate by wheelchair.

The authorities have listened and this is all about to change, Deputy Mayor and Town Planning Councillor Ginés Campillo has confirmed, revealing impressive plans for the Peñasco Panoramic Elevator, an architecturally stunning yet practical crossing between the two locales.

“Today we are closer to making it a reality, since to the Governing Board this Friday (March 10), we took the approval of the execution project to be able to tender its works,” Mr Campillo announced to the Neighbourhood Association, ACOMA Merchants Association and the Paseo Marítimo Hoteliers Association.

Infographics of the ambitions plans were revealed this week, which show a modern and attractive solution to the mobility problem. The project has been declared an action of ‘General Public Interest’ and the elevator was deemed the best possible option.

In addition to installing the lift, the authorities have planned a number of local municipal improvements, including renovating the street lights and street furniture and sprucing up the surrounding parks and green areas.
