ARCHIVED - Los Alcazares launches covid awareness campaign on street crossings
The municipality has reported 13 new cases in the last 24 hours and sees the need to re-enforce safety messaging
“Masks saves lives. Wash your hands ”are just some of the messages of awareness that can be seen on the main pedestrian crossings of the Los Alcázares municipality from Wednesday onwards, in order to reinforce a message highlighting the importance of individual actions as the municipality of Los Alcázares wages its own coronavirus war.
The Department of Public Roads, run by María José Benzal, has begun this Wednesday and will continue to be installed throughout the rest of the week, “until there are finally around 100 pedestrian crossings, located in the busiest areas of the municipality such as educational centers, shopping areas, doctor's office and main avenues, to focus on these awareness messages ”, the councillor said.
Mayor of Los Alcázares, Mario Pérez Cervera, has stated that “this action responds to the need to comply with regulations and guarantee the maintenance of all security measures to avoid the spread of COVID-19, adding to other preventive actions that the City Council is carrying out such as the disinfection of especially sensitive areas of the town, control of capacity in municipal buildings or information posters with contagion prevention measures installed in different points of the town such as mupis, municipal buildings or bus shelters, among others ”.
In the last 24 hours the municipality has reported 13 new cases, bringing the total new cases in the last week to 27.
The municipality has an accumulated incidence rate of 167 cases per 100,000 head of population, so is well below the regional average of 264.
In general, the Mar Menor municipalities have experienced lower cases than in other areas, but as we know all too well, complacency isn´t a word that sits well alongside covid and with the number of active cases in the region currently sitting at 9,185, and with 671 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, the need to follow these simple rules has never been greater.
