ARCHIVED - Coronavirus cases continue to rise in Spain with 19,765 new cases and 168 more deaths in 24 hours
The cumulative incidence rate in the last 14 days is 452 cases per 100,000 inhabitants
The regional health departments of the 17 autonomous communities of Spain have notified the Ministry of Health this Wednesday of 19,765 new cases of Covid-19 throughout Spain, 9,303 of them diagnosed in the last 24 hours. This is an increase of over 3,000 above the 16,793 reported on the previous Wednesday and is the highest number of infections for a Wednesday in the entire second wave, reinforcing the upward trend of the epidemic in Spain in recent weeks. All cases have been tested by PCR.
These latest contagions bring the total number of cases diagnosed in Spain since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,136,503, according to official figures.
This increases the accumulated incidence in the last 14 days to 452, compared to 436 this Tuesday and 332.69 last Wednesday, with a total of 212,853 positives in the past two weeks.
Currently, there are 17,073 patients admitted to hospitals with severe symptoms of Covid-19 throughout Spain ( a rise from the 16,696 reported on Tuesday) and 2,368 in the ICU (a rise from 2,292 this Tuesday), although in the last 24 hours there have been 2,292 admissions ( as opposed to 2,101 this Tuesday) and 1,866 discharges (compared to 1,863 this Tuesday). The occupancy rate of beds occupied by coronavirus now stands at 13.79% (13.93% this Tuesday) and that in ICUs at 25.50% (25.04% this Tuesday).
Thus, in the last week there have been 4,874 hospitalizations for coronavirus: 739 in Andalusia, 455 in Aragon, 281 in Asturias, 51 in the Balearic Islands, 70 in the Canary Islands, 55 in Cantabria, 79 in Castilla -La Mancha, 819 in Castilla y León, 300 in Catalonia, 13 in Ceuta, 395 in the Valencian Community, 169 in Extremadura, 326 in Galicia, 511 in Madrid, 12 in Melilla, 238 in Murcia, 251 in Navarra, six in the Basque Country and 104 in La Rioja.
In this same period, 314 people have also been admitted to intensive care units (ICU), 15,371 in total: 30 in Andalusia, 36 in Aragon, 13 in Asturias, five in the Balearic Islands, 12 in the Canary Islands, two in Cantabria, three in Castilla-La Mancha, 33 in Castilla y León, 13 in Catalonia, 29 in the Valencian Community, 12 in Extremadura, 47 in Galicia, 15 in Madrid, 30 in Murcia, 22 in Navarra, two in the Basque Country and ten in La Rioja.
