article_detailDate Published: 22/10/2020ARCHIVED ARTICLEARCHIVED - Cartagonova bridge in Cartagena closed for two weeks
A new route is being developed to improve access to Cartagena from the west
The Cartagonova bridge on Calle Soldado Rosique over the Rambla de Benipila(next to the football stadium) to the west of the city centre of Cartagena is currently closed to traffic while work is carried out on the new road which will connect it to the Avenida del Cantón.
This is a route which is often used by those approaching the city from the west, particularly from the Mazarrón area, but neither motor vehicles nor pedestrians have been able to use it since Monday 19th October. It is anticipated that the work will last approximately two weeks, consisting of the construction a link between the four-lane bridge and the Avenida del Cantón, which will also boast two lanes in each direction in the future, making this one of the main routes in and out of Cartagena.
While the bridge remains closed drivers are advised to use alternative crossings over the rambla from the Alameda de San Antón, such as the one which leads around further north towards the El Corte Inglés store or Calle Pio XII just south of the Plaza de España.
