Caravaca de la Cruz steps into the spotlight with new role in Film Commission
The historic town hopes to attract film and TV productions with its unique locations and cinematic charm

The agreement, signed by mayor José Francisco García and the director general of the Institute of Cultural Industries and the Arts (ICA), Manuel Cebrián, marks a new chapter for the town. The move places Caravaca firmly on the map as a potential backdrop for everything from epic dramas and historical documentaries to music videos and advertising campaigns.
“Caravaca de la Cruz is a unique film set, forged by centuries of history and cultural richness,” said the mayor. “From our natural landscapes to our archaeological treasures, the town offers filmmakers something truly special, and in doing so, we open the door to new opportunities for local employment and economic development.”

Caravaca is now one of several northern Murcia towns signed up to the commission, following in the footsteps of places like Yecla, where a locally shot film has already found success at film festivals in the UK and US.
ICA’s general director, Manuel Cebrián, welcomed Caravaca’s inclusion, saying it completes the representation of the entire Northwest Region within the Film Commission.
“We’re rolling out the red carpet to the audiovisual industry,” he said. “Caravaca brings a wealth of new locations to the table, strengthening our position as a serious destination for filmmakers.”
So far, the Film Commission has helped bring six feature films and a dozen documentaries to life across the region. With the support of local film offices, the platform has also made room for short films, high-profile ad shoots, music videos and television productions, showing that Murcia is more than ready for its time on screen.
