ARCHIVED - Four new Covid cases in Murcia on Thursday
The number of active cases moves upwards again to 74
It’s tempting to go for the headline “number of new Covid cases in the Murcia Region doubles in the last 24 hours”, but when the figures are as low as 2 on Wednesday doubling up to 4 on Thursday, a little editorial caution should be observed to avoid accusations of scaremongering headlines.
But nontheless, figures in the Murcia region have been virtually static for so many weeks now that it is a little perturbing to see new cases when the government is on the verge of unleashing the population and removing the mobility restrictions which have kept the figures in check since March 13th when coastal areas of the Murcia region were put into a premature lockdown by our regional government.
The regional minister for health, Manuel Villegas, presented the data compiled at 23:59 on Wednesday evening and included in the national figures for Spain which will be published this evening, informing the media that three of the cases, which bring the total number of active cases to 74, were contracted via family contacts and one is “imported”, ie via an individual coming into the region with the virus.
The regional health service has carried out 905 swab tests and 425 rapid tests in the last 24 hours, yielding six further positive cases, although all of these relate to antibody tests, so bring the total of cases reported in the region to 3,202.
The number of fatalities remains unchanged at 150, the same as the numbers of those hospitalised which remains at 7 and the number in intensive care at 2. The current figure for those who are in home isolation has increased by the four new cases diagnosed by PCR swab test to 67, four higher than yesterday.
