ARCHIVED - 24th to 30th November, David Lynch films featured in the Cartagena International Film Festival
Four David Lynch movies in original version are among 70 screenings during the FICC festival
The 48th edition of the Cartagena International Film Festival between 24th and 30th November features screenings of 70 motion pictures at two main venues in the city and includes a special tribute to the work of director David Lynch.
As is the case of other non-Spanish films being shown during the festival, movies such as Blue Velvet, Eraserhead and The Elephant Man can be seen in original version with Spanish subtitles, along with the documentary “David Lynch: The Art Life”, which is being screened on 25th November at 16.30 in the Centro Cultural Ramón Alonso Luzzy. At the same time, a very “Lynchian” exhibition is being held on Friday 22nd November at the Aula de Cultura de la Fundación Cajamurcia, where an exhibition entitled “Psychogenic Fugue” is being opened: this consists of eight photographs of the actor John Malkovich personifying some of the most iconic characters in Lynch’s cinematographic world.
For the full program of film screenings click here (the document is in Spanish).
Other themes in the 2019 festival include a series of Japanese “anime” films for younger audiences created by Hayao Miyazaki, four of them being shown on 25th, 26th, 27th and 28th November at 10.00 in the Centro Luzzy, while on the musical side there are two free open-air concerts: one features the Sauces music society performing numbers from film soundtracks at 12.00 on 24th November in the Plaza del Icue, and the other is given by Leslie Drivers and Stolen at the same venue on 16th November at 19.00.
The two main venues are the Centro Cultural Ramón Alonso Luzzy and the Auditorio El Batel on the seafront in Cartagena, and another venue known as “El Contenedor” will be installed from 25th to 29th November in the Plaza de Héroes de Cavite, enabling visitors to see short films by David Lynch.
Admission to all films shown at the Centro Cultural Ramón Alonso Luzzy, including those by David Lynch, is free of charge, while for those screened at El Batel tickets are priced at just 3 euros (or 15 euros for 6 screenings).
