Although it wasn’t as devastating as on previous occasions, the DANA storm that affected most of Spain recently also left significant damage on the province of Alicante’s Costa Blanca.

 

Previously, it has been the rain that has been most destructive during Alicante cold drops, as it was in Madrid, Teruel and other parts of central Spain, but this time the wind was the worst part in Alicante.

 

After just a few days’ break due to the extreme weather, the tourists are back on Alicante’s beaches and at the hotels, continuing to enjoy an extended summer vacation.

 

In Alicante city, the beaches were covered in loads of seaweed on Monday morning, and several walkways and water pipes were broken. In La Albufereta, as usual, the sand on the stretch of the beach corresponding to the mouth of the ravine was also affected.

 

As a consequence of the DANA this past weekend, the Alicante Local Police and the Fire Prevention and Extinction Service carried out around 200 actions related to falling trees and branches, awnings and signage and sanitation.

 

Beaches in Elche and Santa Pola were also badly affected, with the coastal areas becoming flooded and the wind reaching 70 kilometres per hour. Benidorm got off lightly, hardly suffering any serious damage as a result of the storm.

 

For the coming days, there will be more dark rainclouds and some scattered showers on Wednesday and Thursday, but then it will be a bright and sunny weekend with daytime temperatures reaching up to around 30ºC.
