Aguilas and Murcia residents can get help to pay for glasses, hearing aids and more
You have three weeks to apply for grants to cover the cost of home adaptation for disabilities and reduced mobility and other expenditures to improve wellbeing for the elderly
Elderly and disabled people living in the municipal area of Águilas and across the Region of Murcia who wish to partially cover the purchase of devices that promote their wellbeing and autonomy, as well as to improve the accessibility of their homes, will have until Sunday May 12 to submit their applications.
Subsidies will be given for the purchase of contact lenses, glasses, hearing aids, oral and dental treatments, and accessories for cochlear implants.
The financial aid programme also covers the purchase of devices to facilitate the inclusion of disabled people with very serious verbal communication problems, the adaptation of motor vehicles for people with reduced mobility and the installation of swimming pool crane chairs to enable access to swimming pools.
This aid will be granted on a non-periodic basis and only once during this financial year and includes, according to Águilas Town Hall, “any type of action to eliminate architectural barriers in the home with the enlargement of doors, the installation of shower trays, bath chairs, articulated beds, ramps, lifting platforms and stair lifts, as well as architectural repairs or adaptations to facilitate daily life in the home with larger and more functional spaces.”
Any resident of the municipality over 65 years of age, as well as any retirees receiving a pension from the Spanish Social Security system and people who have a recognised disability equal to or greater than 33% can apply for such a grant.
Applications must be made by filling in the requisite form available at this link (in Spanish), either online or in person. This same link also details the specific amount of money available for each type of help and where to present the application in person.
All applications must be accompanied by the required documentation. In the case of aid for the adaptation of your habitual residence, these must include a report accrediting the need to improve accessibility issued by the Primary Care Social Services for the applicant’s home.
