ARCHIVED - 24th January to 25th February, Expolio photography exhibition by Judith Prat in Cartagena
Images of devastation and contamination in Nigeria and the DR Congo at the Palacio de Molina
An exhibition of images shot by the photographer Judith Prat is open at the Palacio de Molina in Cartagena under the title of “Expolio”, illustrating the conflicts in various parts of Africa related to Boko Haram (IS in Nigeria) and contamination in Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
In all 60 photographs are on display, depicting a trip to the coltan mines in the east of the DR Congo and the delta of the River Niger, and the exhibition is divided into three main parts, the third of which is dedicated to the situation of women in a part of the world where devastation is an everyday experience. The Congo and the Niger are some of the richest parts of the world in terms of petroleum deposits, but also some of the most seriously contaminated as a result of the actions of petroleum companies, and in this context the women among the population are constantly fighting against violence and oppression.
Judith Prat is from Aragón in the north of Spain and graduated in Law before beginning to travel around the world with human rights organizations. After a number of trips she realized that words were not enough to convey the harsh conditions she was witnessing and decided to take up photo-journalism.
In this role she has recently worked in Latin America, the Middle East and Africa, and her work has been published in VICE USA, ElConfidencial, ElMundo, The Guardian, Al Jaazeera and ElSalto among many others.
The exhibition at the Palacio de Molina is from Tuesday to Friday between 10.00 and 14.00 and from 17.00 to 20.00 and at weekends from 11.00 to 14.00.
